Direct from Amsterdam to Salzburg
Travel while you sleep? Choose the Nightjet, the night train that takes you directly from Amsterdam to Salzburg in 12.45 hours. You will arrive refreshed in the centre of Salzburg the following morning. From 13 June 2026, this will be possible without changing trains.
We are running this fast, direct connection to Salzburg because of roadworks on other parts of the track. We do not yet know if this direct train will continue to run in 2027. The final timetable for 2027 will be announced in September.
Prefer to travel during the day? From Amsterdam, you can take the ICE train to Salzburg in 9.21 hours. Along the way, you will need to change trains once or twice, depending on your chosen departure time.
Rotterdam – Salzburg
Start your journey at Rotterdam Centraal and travel by ICE or Nightjet to the centre of Salzburg.
From Rotterdam, you can reach Salzburg by train in 9.45 hours. You will need to change trains two to four times en route, depending on your chosen departure time. Thanks to well-coordinated connections, you can arrive in Salzburg in under 10 hours by daytime train.
Prefer to travel overnight? Choose the Nightjet, the overnight train that takes you from Utrecht to Salzburg in 13.20 hours. From 13 June 2026, you will only need to change trains in Utrecht and will arrive refreshed in the centre of Salzburg the following morning.
Eindhoven – Salzburg
Start your journey at Eindhoven Centraal and travel by ICE or Nightjet to the heart of Salzburg.
From Eindhoven, you can reach Salzburg by train in 8.40 hours. You will need to change trains two to four times en route, depending on your departure time. Thanks to convenient connections, you can arrive in Salzburg in under 9 hours by daytime train.
Prefer to travel while you sleep? Choose the Nightjet, the overnight train that takes you from Utrecht or Arnhem to Salzburg in 13.30 hours. With just one change (from 13 June 2026), you will arrive refreshed in the centre of Salzburg the following morning.

Book in advance and save money!
The cheapest way to travel by train is to book early. Do you already know when you want to go? Then choose the Supersparpreis Europa fare. This is the most affordable fare, but it is tied to a fixed date, time and train. Changes or cancellations are not possible.
Tips for buying budget train tickets
- Book as early as possibly to have the most chance of getting the cheapest tickets.
- Travelling in the evening is often cheaper.
- For a weekend getaway, travel Sat-Sun-Mon instead of Fri-Sat-Sun.
- Book online to avoid booking fee.

Free access to the lounges
ITravelling in 1st class? You can relax comfortably before your train journey to Düsseldorf in the NS International Lounge in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, with a complimentary drink. Seat reservation
In the summer of 2026 (26 June to 31 August), a seat reservation for international trains is compulsory. Outside this period, reserving a seat is not required, but it is recommended. After booking, you will receive a confirmation with your carriage and seat number. Want to make sure you have a seat? Reserve online.
1st class reservation
When booking a 1st class full-flex ticket, the cost of the seat reservation is included in the price. You can often also indicate a seating preference when booking.
