Our history
NS International is part of the Dutch Railways (NS) and has been providing reliable and comfortable international train services for decades.
The history of NS International in the Netherlands dates back to the 19th century when the first international train connections were introduced. In 1843, the Great Rhine Railway launched the first cross-border train from Amsterdam to Germany. This marked the beginning of international train travel for Dutch Railways. Over the years, NS has evolved to meet the growing demand for international train journeys.
After World War II, NS played a key role in restoring and expanding the European railway network. This led to the launch of well-known international services, such as the Trans Europ Express (TEE) in the 1950s and 1960s, which offered luxury routes between European cities. In the 1990s and 2000s, international train travel was further modernised with the introduction of high-speed trains like Thalys, Eurostar, and ICE.
NS International continues to innovate and improve the travel experience for passengers by offering modern trains, better schedules, and customer-focused services. This allows travellers to easily and comfortably reach international destinations from the Netherlands.
Overview of international trains
NS International offers a wide range of international train services, including high-speed, regular, and night trains. We collaborate with other train operators to offer an ever-expanding network of connections. NS International acts both as a ticket seller and a transport provider. When you purchase a ticket through our website, you may enter into an agreement with another NS organisation or one of our international partners. The table below shows which organisations you enter into an agreement with for different services.
