Transporting bicyles on the train
In general
You can bring your own bicycle on many of our international trains. Different rules apply for transporting bicycles on each train carrier. Read this article to find out about all the options and rules for taking your bike with you.
Buying a ticket for your bicyle
Voor de meeste treinen is het noodzakelijk om van tevoren een reservering te maken of kaartje te kopen om uw fiets mee te mogen nemen.
- A bicycle ticket to Belgium and Luxemburg can be booked online.
- For other destinations, please visit the NS International desk or contact of bij NS International Customer Services. If you purchase your bicycle ticket and reservation over the phone, you can also buy your train ticket at the same time, without any additional charges.
Bicyles ticket prices
There is no set ticket price for bicycles. The price varies depending on the route and is set by the carrier. In addition to a ticket for your bicycle, a reservation is mandatory for some trains. This reservation is free of charge when you purchase your ticket. Bicycle tickets are always booked in second class.
Taking your bicycle during rush hour
It can be very busy during rush hour. We advise you to travel with your bicycle during off-peak hours (from 09.00 to 16.00 hrs and from 18.30 to 06.30 hrs). There are sometimes restrictions on bicycles on regional trains during rush hour. However, if you have an international train ticket and a bicycle ticket, you can travel with your bike on regional trains during rush hour.
Cycling to and from an NS station
The bicycle is the ideal way to travel to or from a station. That is why we provide a range of cycle services at all NS International stations.
