What can you do in Turnhout in two days?
Day 1
Morning - out and about in the city
Start the day with a 4-kilometre city walk: 'Wegwijs door Turnhout'. Take a leisurely stroll through the beguinage and the town centre.
Tip: Do you enjoy being on the water? From 1 April to 31 October, you can go kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding on the Dessel–Turnhout–Schoten canal at Nieuwe Kaai. Reservations can easily be made via Dobber.
Afternoon - tasty lunch
Enjoy a delicious lunch at Pique-Nique Le Bon. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere has a light French style. You can enjoy simple yet tasty food and drinks. French music plays in the background. Take a seat and enjoy!
Walking in nature
Afterwards, visit Turnhouts wetlands. This nature reserve is located in the northern part of the city. It contains forests, meadows, fields and fens. It is an ideal place for long walks.
Tip: Don't forget to take a photo from the observation tower!
Evening - Dining
Dine at the restaurant PUUR. The kitchen serves dishes with southern flavours. Many of the dishes are designed to be shared with your fellow dining companions, which is great fun!
Tip: Finish your day at B&B De Hessie,, which is located a short distance from the restaurant. You will sleep in one of three uniquely styled rooms. From the terrace, you can enjoy views of the meadows and the donkeys, Johanna and Wannes..
Day 2
Morning - time for the museum
Visit the Taxandria Museum. The new exhibition, 'Kant Ontrafeld' (Lace Unravelled), introduces visitors to the world of lace production in Turnhout. Although lace appears delicate and luxurious, there are some less attractive stories behind its production. This exhibition presents that history in a clear and accessible way.
Afternoon - lunch at Tatì
Enjoy a delicious lunch at Bistro Tatí on the Grote Markt. They serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. Foodies can opt for an extensive High Tea. Fancy something sweet? Try a slice of cake from Tartes Tatì, made using traditional methods and natural ingredients.
Tip: Tatì has its own coffee roastery: Tatì Coffee Roasters.
Biking
Explore the area by bicycle. You can easily cycle to Tilburg in the Netherlands via the Bels Lijntje, a former railway line. The route takes you through beautiful countryside and is well worth the effort. If you haven't yet visited the observation tower in the wetlands, stop off on the way to enjoy the view.
