Start of new night trains to Vienna and Innsbruck
28 May 2025
The Nightjet consists of seven carriages bound for Vienna and seven for Munich and Innsbruck. Together, the train can accommodate up to 520 passengers. Travellers can choose between a private sleeper cabin with seating and an en-suite bathroom for 1 to 2 people, a mini cabin for 1 person, or a shared sleeper cabin with berths for up to 4 people.
A dedicated accessible cabin is available for wheelchair users. This compartment accommodates 2 wheelchair users and 2 accompanying passengers. Next to the cabin is a wheelchair-accessible toilet. Additionally, the train includes 192 seats across 4 seated carriages.
On board
Travellers in the mini cabins are served a standard breakfast. Those in the sleeper cabins can choose their breakfast from a menu. Additionally, passengers can visit one of the ten service kitchens on board to order meals, snacks, and drinks. Travellers with a seated ticket can also purchase breakfast at these service points.
Various technical improvements on board the train make the journey more comfortable. The train offers free Wi-Fi, multiple charging options, and the ability to control the temperature and lighting in the sleeping areas. Upgraded wheels and suspension systems ensure a smooth and restful night’s sleep. Passengers in the sleeper cabins and mini cabins can lock their private space using a digital key card, similar to hotel rooms.
The luggage racks in the seating area are equipped with built-in locks, which can be opened using a personal PIN code, an OV-chipkaart, or a bank card.
Daily night train service
The night train to Vienna and Innsbruck departs daily from Amsterdam Central Station. The train travels via Amersfoort and Deventer through Germany to Austria in just over 14 hours. In the opposite direction, the Nightjet from Austria arrives in the Netherlands every morning.
Tickets for the night train are available from € 35 for a seat, from € 55 for a couchette, and from € 100 for a sleeper cabin. Prices vary depending on the time of booking and travel.
The night train service was launched in 2021 and is a collaboration between the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and NS. The new night train was built by Siemens. In addition to the night train to Vienna and Innsbruck, a daily night train to Zurich also departs from the Netherlands. These trains will be replaced by the same new train models at a later stage.
