Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, is located in a region with fairytale castles and vineyards. Try exploring it by bike! There are various cycling and walking routes available for young and old. Then cycle along the Drakenburg Castle. At 300 years old, it’s one of the most popular attractions in the region. The castle also overlooks the Drachenfels, a 321-metre-high silent volcano.

Book in advance and save money
The cheapest way to travel by train is to book early. Do you already know when you want to go? Then choose the Supersparpreis Europa fare. This is the most affordable fare, but it is tied to a fixed date, time and train. Changes or cancellations are not possible.
Tips for buying budget train tickets
- Book as early as possibly to have the most chance of getting the cheapest tickets.
- Travelling in the evening is often cheaper.
- For a weekend getaway, travel Sat-Sun-Mon instead of Fri-Sat-Sun.
- Book online to avoid booking fee.

Seat reservation
In the summer of 2026 (26 June to 31 August), a seat reservation for international trains is compulsory. Outside this period, reserving a seat is not required, but it is recommended. After booking, you will receive a confirmation with your carriage and seat number. Want to make sure you have a seat? Reserve online.
1st class reservation
When booking a 1st class full-flex ticket, the cost of the seat reservation is included in the price. You can often also indicate a seating preference when booking.
