Flexible booking of train tickets

Do you want to book without worries? Then buy a flexible ticket that you can still change. You sometimes have to pay extra for flexible tickets. These conditions differ per carrier. Below you will find an overview of the possibilities per carrier.

Flexible Thalys tickets

You can book Thalys flexibly with any fare. You can cancel or change tickets up to 7 days before departure at no extra cost. However, you will be charged for any price difference between the old and the new ticket.

  • Standard and Comfort: If you wish to change tickets 7 days or more before departure, you will be charged € 15 per ticket plus the possible price difference. Cancellations are not possible 6 days or less prior to departure.
  • Premium: You can change or cancel your ticket free of charge up to one hour after the departure of the train. However, you will be charged for any difference in price between the old and new ticket.

    Flexible booking Eurostar

    All purchable Eurostar tickets are flexible. You can change your ticket up to 7 days before departure. Only the possible price difference between the old and the new ticket will be charged. The Business Premier fare allows you to cancel your ticket.

    You can also change your ticket 6 days or less before departure, but you will have to pay a alteration fee in addition to any price difference. The costs are:

    • Alteration fee Standard: € 40 per ticket.
    • Alteration fee Standard Premier: € 50 per ticket.
    • Alteration fee Business Premier: free, up to 60 days after planned trip.

      Flexible booking Intercity Brussels

      You can also buy a flexble ticket for Intercity Brussels. There are two rates:

      • Mid-flex fare: up to and including the day before departure you can change or cancel your ticket (Early Bird fare). You then pay €5 plus any price difference. You can no longer cancel or change your ticket on the day of travel.
      • Flex-tarief: You can change or cancel your ticket up to and including the day of departure. You only pay the difference in price between the old and the new ticket.

      ICE International and Intercity Berlin and flexibility

      There are 3 types of flexible tickets for ICE and Intercity Berlin:

      • Sparpreis Europa: You can change or cancel your ticket up to the day of departure for a fee of €19. On the day of travel, this is not possible.
      • Flexpreis Europa: You can change or cancel your ticket free of charge up until the day of departure. You only pay the difference in price, if applicable. Up to one month after the effective date of your ticket, you can change or cancel your unused ticket at a cost of € 19 per ticket. Up to two months after the effective date of your ticket, you can cancel your unused ticket for € 19.
      • Flexpreis Europa Plus: This ticket is valid one day before and two days after the selected travel day. If you wish to cancel or change your ticket, you may do so until the last day of validity. Again, you only pay the difference in price between the old and new ticket.
        After the last day of validity, you can also cancel or change your ticket, paying €19 per ticket.

      You can only cancel an entire booking and not individual tickets from a booking.

        Nightjet flexible booking

        You can book Nightjet tickets with the Mid-flex rate.

        • You can cancel or change your tickets free of charge up to 15 days before departure. You will, however, have to pay any difference in price to the new ticket.
        • You can also cancel or change your booking between 14 days until the day before departure. You will then pay 50% of the ticket price.
        • On the day of departure you can no longer cancel or change your ticket.

          Booking tickets

          It is possible that not all fares are visible during the booking process. If a particular fare is not visible on your chosen journey, then the fare does not apply to that journey or no tickets are available.
