Three days a week

It might take some getting used to for the Austrian public. But for the Dutch who take the Nightjet to Amsterdam, 'NS in de buurt' will probably feel very familiar. Three days – or better said, nights – a week, this locomotive will run directly from Amsterdam to Vienna. And back again.

No more switching locomotives

Up until Monday, the Nightjet Vienna always required passengers to catch another locomotive at Cologne-West. This was complex in terms of shunting and regularly caused delays. Together with ŐBB, the Austrian carrier and partner of NS International, it was decided it would be better to not have to switch locomotives. And for that to happen, a locomotive that is allowed to run everywhere was needed.
NS has therefore leased an additional Vectron locomotive and is renting it out to ŐBB. Now, it is already possible to skip the 'locomotive switch' three days a week. This will make the train more punctual in both directions.
Starting in 2024, Nightjet Vienna will run directly from Amsterdam to the Austrian capital and vice versa every day.
