International trains and travelling within the Netherlands

International trains and travelling within the Netherlands

For travel within the Netherlands, you can also use your OV-chipkaart or a single-use smart card chip on the following NS International trains:

  • Intercity Brussels: IC direct supplement needed on the route Schiphol Airport - Rotterdam Central
  • Intercity Berlin: without supplement on the route Amsterdam Central - Hengelo
  • ICE International: ICE supplement required on the domestic route between Amsterdam Central - Arnhem Central. If you have a season ticket which is valid with NS, you can travel by ICE International in the Netherlands without a supplement; but your season ticket must include the Amsterdam Central - Utrecht Central - Arnhem route or part of it.

When travelling with Thalys and Eurostar, you cannot use the OV-chipkaart or single-use smart card. A ticket with reservation is needed.

NS International has the same rules and conditions when travelling in the Netherlands as the NS.
