International trains and travelling within the Netherlands

For travel within the Netherlands, you can also use your OV-chipkaart or a single-use smart card chip on the following NS International trains:

• Eurocity Direct and EuroCity: Intercity direct supplement needed on the route Schiphol Airport - Rotterdam Central
• ICE: An ICE supplement is compulsory on the domestic route between Amsterdam Central and Arnhem Central, and on the route between Amsterdam Central and Hengelo. If you hold a season ticket, no surcharge is required. You also do not need to pay a surcharge if you hold a student season ticket, an NS Business Card or a Business OV-chipkaart issued by corporate card providers.

When travelling with Eurostar you cannot use the OV-chipkaart or single-use smart card. A ticket with reservation is needed.

NS International has the same rules and conditions when travelling in the Netherlands as the NS.
