Additional ICE trains to Germany
ICE takes alternative route during engineering works
This summer, work will be carried out on the railway near Oldenzaal, on the route of the ICE to Berlin. In previous years, it was not possible to run the trains to Berlin during such works, and coaches were used as replacement transport. This year, we are doing things differently!

ICE to Berlin via alternative route
On eight days, the ICE trains to Berlin will run via an alternative route: through the border crossing at Emmerich. The trains depart from Amsterdam and travel via Utrecht, Arnhem and Dortmund to Hanover and Berlin. As a result, the journey takes less than half an hour longer than usual! This means that on these days, nearly 50,000 additional seats will be available — seats we would otherwise have been unable to offer during the summer.
When are the engineering works taking place?
The engineering works will take place from 19 to 21 June and from 20 to 24 July. The temporary alternative route in June is already visible in the journey planner.
